Sunday 11 am April 7th
My dear Alice,
Left Chicago an hour ago. Were there three hours and had breakfast in the station. Everything being done for our pleasure and comfort. Friends of Miss Samuelson who bunks with me took us for an auto ride along the North Shore Boulevard. We reach Philadelphia tomorrow at 12:48 pm, and I think are there three hours. I wired Uncle from Chicago. Had quite a send off from Minneapolis. Those down to see me were Mrs. Hurd, Miss Castle, Mrs. White and Anna, Beth Hacking, Margaret Doerfler, Emma Schaefer, Mr. and Mrs. Whitelaw, and Mother, Margaret, Frances, and Mrs. Pearce.
Write me a letter to US Army Base Hospital, No. 26 Lakewood, New Jersey.
A full stomach is necessary to keep my head steady. Am going into lunch at 11:30. We pay but will be reimbursed and are allowed over $4.00 per day. Glad to hear from Jack Skelland before leaving. Wonder if I will see him. I did not expect you to come to Minneapolis as I had seen you so recently.
I left George K. on Friday. He told me to be good and not let anyone run away with me! I wonder who will succeed me.
We left Minneapolis on the Burlington and Chicago on the Pennsylvania. Thirty-six of us left Minneapolis, but we are now about 45 nurses.
Just returned from dinner-chicken pie**********
Ina Hurd and her husband start tomorrow for Washington D.C. He is going on a business trip.
Must find a way to mail this.
Affectionately, Jane
