Holly Hotel, 36 Washington Square, NY. U.S. Army Base Hospital No. 26
Dear Folks,
We left Lakewood at 3:45 yesterday. Had a dirty ride here of 1 and ½ hours. Rather foggy crossing the Hudson River on the ferry, but we were able to see the Statue of Liberty, the skyline of New York and several camouflaged steamers in the harbor. The largest had three funnels.
The Holly is a nice apartment hotel on Washington Square which is the downtown end of 5th Ave. Had a very good dinner last night. A meeting in the hotel this morning and could not go out until 11:30 am. Three of us then walked down Broadway as far as Wall Street. Stepped inside the Trinity Church for a few minutes then took a car back. After lunch we went over to the Red Cross Headquarters and signed up for equipment. They are very generous. I will tell you all about it when I get it and see what it looks like.
I will take my suit to wear on the boat but serge dress and pajamas will be sent home. Tomorrow we get shoes and suits are fitted. I hope to have pictures taken of me in mine.
